Daughter and husband owned the TriBeCa and legacy sedan.

The cupping of the treads led to thumping and road noise so loud I replaced them with less than three years' of highway use.

A small divot can occur from a stress crack of from spontaneously cracking.

8 Aug

But as for interior room, it is so close to the Tribeca it is silly.

22 Jun

CVT transmission broke at 110,000 miles.

30 Jul

If you do not manually slip the transmission to neutral the car stalls.

3 Apr

Now that I have the car up to snuff, I find it to be a very comfortable daily driver I put new Struts Shocks Transmission fluid Serpentine belt Spark plugs Power steering fluid Brake fluid on the car doing the work myself.

26 Feb

CVT transmission is proving problemmatic.

18 Aug

Neither transmission got 100,000 miles, the engine only got about 60000.

21 Jul

This left many customers with faulty transmission problems.

4 Apr

Since owning the car we have had to replace the transmission at 101,000 miles and now at 112,000 we are having to replace the head gaskets.

21 Feb

but the engine roars transmission whines when accelerating hard.

16 Nov

I took it into a dealer and they did flash update on the transmission which didn't fix a thing.

4 Oct

Transmission on car went bad after 118000 miles.

21 Oct

Cons: Road noise is above average.

16 Nov

Actually the whole car is kind of noisy especially on the highway.

30 Sep

No vibrations or creaking to be heard.

25 May

Several of the plastic interior parts have come off and there is a rattle in the exhaust (several of my previous Subarus also had that problem).

9 Apr

Road noise is more than I'm used to and styrofoam spare tire cover squeaks irritatingly.

18 Jul

The only other negative points are the moon roof is too noisy when open, with or without the deflector and it pulls to the right after installing new tires which I was told by dealer is a design by Subaru,

20 Feb

Passenger seat had a squeak, dealer fixed no charge as it should have been.

2 Dec

The bluebooth and noise in the car could be improved.

20 Oct

Both cars were made with cheap plastic, had alot of rattles, transmission issues, and the darned muffler guard had to be tightened every 3 months or so.

4 Sep

It has a clicking noise behind the driverÂ’s dashboard and creaking/rattles in the plastic trays on the sides of the doors.

22 Jun

Should have been recalled.

25 Oct

When it reached 115,000 it failed and now will cost me $5000 to repair.

18 Aug

N/A

21 Jul

This left many customers with faulty transmission problems.

10 Jan

The passengers seat belt clasp failed at 3-3/4 years. Expensive.

28 Jan

At 65k the head gasket is starting to fail and there's a recall to replace the entire engine due to a piston ring issue!

17 Nov

Other than not testing for head gasket failure prior to doing this work, they claim there is no problem with their head gaskets.

19 May

.this is not normal and Subaru should repair / recall this car to fix this problem.

2 Mar

Knowing it's a problem and an expensive one they chose to extend the warranty to 100K versus fixing the problem on their torque converters.

30 Jul

This is a known issue for the Subaru CVT and Subaru extended the warranty on the tranny to 100K.

18 Aug

N/A

29 Jan

but we used it so much for other things that were breaking that we decided to get rid of the car before the warranty expired.

18 Jul

Well, after nearly 7 months and $10K (on extended warranty so dealer ate it), the problem ended up being that Discount Tire installed 235/65R/17 on left side and 235/60R/17 on right side!

17 Nov

To add injury to insult, they had an issue with the wiper control system that they retroactively put under an "extended" warranty.

30 Oct

Several pieces of plastic have broken on the interior--all covered on the warranty.

10 Oct

I have to say the parts replacement is cheap and easy (brakes, etc.).

3 Apr

Now that I have the car up to snuff, I find it to be a very comfortable daily driver I put new Struts Shocks Transmission fluid Serpentine belt Spark plugs Power steering fluid Brake fluid on the car doing the work myself.

21 Feb

Maintenance costs have been minimal so far, with only brake and rotor replacement and scheduled maintenance.

15 Sep

The old fashioned mechanical brakes are more robust and less expensive to repair.

9 May

166.000 miles in, the transmission is having issues, the emergency breaks need to be replaces(don't know why, never use it).

18 Jul

When I got the Outback back after shifting problem, it again had pulsations when applying the brakes.

4 Sep

It has the standard Subaru brake clunk and the muffler-guard rattle.

10 Apr

The issues are that I get a clunk when I release the brake pedal quickly (Dealer says it is normal) and the other more annoying problem is that I get a rpm related whirring from the engine right from idle.

This new Outback is so similar to the Tribeca in terms of ride quality, feel, etc.

What a great ride. Aside from regular maintenance, I can't recall doing any other repairs, other than having to fix a rattle in the undercarriage (just replaced a couple bolts.)

22 Feb

The third time was the scariest- I was driving on the interstate going 75 mph when the engine made a rattling noise and cut off.

20 Nov

Constantly having to clamp loose heat shields from rattling.

11 Jan

Had some issues with rattle in roof liner up near the sunroof, front passenger door.

3 recalls, stalling with A/C on full, squeaky seats, under powered engine, can't find door unlock

26 Dec

It has the longest lasting brakes of any car I've ever owned, as long as your mechanic uses strictly Subaru parts; my current set is going on 70K, and still has 30% left on the pads.

20 Jul

In the 4 months we owned it, the brake calipers literally fell apart, the engine mounts went bad, the torque converter failed twice, and the engine started drinking anti-freeze.

Again at low speed, just when you let the foot off the brake, the car inches forward at about RPM of 650.

14 Mar

Hard for heater to warm feet, fan very noisy and interior controls difficult to see in the dark.

23 Feb

When the fan is turned up the noise is deafening and still no heat on feet.

19 Jan

The heater system is taking some getting used to, comes on way hot even when set to 72 or less.

4 Jan

However, once the temperature dipped below 30, the problems surfaced.

17 Dec

It's not fun to drive, it feels underpowered, hard to park, heating system still needs improvement.

19 Dec

Both dealer and 3rd party vehicle service contract holder did their best to avoid any assistance in dealing with the dreaded Subaru head gasket failure brought on by weak dealer maintenance before the sale, shortly after I got the car home.

29 Sep

Multiple recalls in the 9 months I've owned it and taken in for service 3 times to address stalling issue.

6 Jul

Car is sure footed in winter weather, and the only time I couldn't move (on the stock tires) was trying to climb a steep driveway with 6-8" of snow already on the pavement.

20 Mar

Made my decision to purchase after getting my BMW out of winter storage, became exhausted from the pounding of those run flat tires, just terrible.

1 Mar

One tire had a problem and would not steer right, pulled me off the road and I about lost it.

1 Feb

Tires bounce a little (not terrible) and feel like they are over inflated or made of a cheap single ply rubber.

27 Sep

I have had a little road noise from the back tires

21 Sep

The tribeca is a great vehicle,

7 Jul

We also noticed in the winter/cold weather that the transmission had a slight vibration in the front when braking.

18 Feb

Car is very noisy, hate the CVT.

21 Nov

At speeds of 80 to 90 miles per hour and the vehicle structure is solid, little bit of noise

10 Nov

At 40000 miles the heat shields start to rattle.

24 Jan

Everything rattled.

15 Oct

I got all that with this car except for a clunking noise thats coming from the brakes when you first start the car after its been sitting a while.

27 Aug

The car is very quick and there is little noise except from the tires which I can live with (and get some quieter ones when these wear out).

12 Jun

Like numerous other posts I too experience the road drift at highway speeds as well as the vibration.

Traveling down the interstate with a well cared for 2012 Subaru Legacy when the car started shaking badly and the engine light came on.

24 Jun

Before the transmission went out, I only had to spend money on 2 slow leak tires and on the front headlight.

5 Jan

Headlights go out often and are not easy to replace.

18 Oct

Negatives-As I have read on other reviews on this page, two main complaints.I to have had to replace low beam lights way to frequently and get excuses from the dealer. Also, the seats aren't comfortable as others have stated.Especially on longer trips.

12 Feb

Turning on the bright lights fix the problem so it's not a insurmountable problem.

24 Jun

21 Nov

Vehicle configuration allow me to make some upgrade as far as wheels and tires, exhaust pipes (Cat pipes) intake air filter, rotors and upgrade brake system (upgrade brake caliper, front and back, dipped crossed rotors with semi-ceramic brake pads).

29 Apr

There is too much front-suspension tire road noise.

15 Mar

The car rides well, dealer prep was poor--the compass-mirror was not set to this region and tires were badly over-inflated.

23 Aug

Transmissions were so bad that even Subaru acknowledged their mistake and replaced a lot of them with just another junk CVT transmission.

12 Aug

but the CVT Transmission.

7 Jul

I personally hate CVT transmissions, especially the one in the 2013 Subaru Legacy.

24 Jun

Anyway, at 158,000 miles, the transmission was acting strange.

28 Sep

but lacks on quality the transmission went out at 91k and engine was replaced at 98k due to excessive oil consumption.

5 Jan

A coworker's 2012 Legacy's transmission went out and his also had engine trouble.

23 Jan

but doesn't get the CVT trans.

28 Oct

I have experienced the shifting "clunk" sound a couple times,

7 Sep
