handles like a sport car, and would not change a thing on it.

17 Apr

52k miles later, I haven't been disappointed - it's been great for hauling kids/equipment to sports events, camping trips, and my short commute to work on our rough winter roads.

23 Feb

Sporty sturdy truck, rides like a car.

8 Feb

We brought this new 2004 SUV Sport in white with trim, and let me tell you we are very satisfied.

17 Oct

but it's an s.u.v not a european sports car, although it handles like one.

19 Sep

Overall a huge improvement over my '98 Explorer Sport.

31 Jul

The new design has so much more space, drives and handles like a sports car but has all of the luxuries of a high end sedan.

22 Feb

It handles better than the Explorer Sport I had previously.

22 Feb

Traded in a '03 Explorer Sport (Nothing sporty about an outdated 2-door) and the difference from top-to-bottom is dramatic, everything is a substantial improvement.

19 Feb

Nothing like my 1999 Sport.

31 Oct

The explorer is a great SUV vehicle.. transmission probability needs proper care

21 Mar

I love my Explorer this is the third Explorer I have bought and all three have had a little engine noise

21 Apr

other hen that my wife loves her explorer, we live in maine and it it does great in snow

18 Aug

I purchased my 2004 Explorer Limited V8 new and have had it back at the dealer more often for repairs than any vehicle I have ever owned.

22 Aug

I had a 1995 Explorer when I was in high school and it had been awhile since I'd had an SUV so when we had the great gas crisis of 2008 I thought I could get into another one cheaply.

22 Jul

Our experience with Ford and this Ford Explorer has made us decide not to purchase any more Ford vehicles.

20 Apr

It's been a good vehicle and I purchased it because of the great success I had with my '99 Explorer.

23 Sep

The Explorer handles 70mph comfortably.

1 Apr

I'm pretty sure that we will never buy an Explorer again.

19 Oct

They all were awesome with no problems, except for the brakes wearing out quickly on the sport trac and the poor quality leather.

14 Aug

The transmission was the first thing to go.

16 Sep

but thats an occassional thing that will eventually worsen over time. Also,no Transmission dipstick to check your fluid level so unless your handy you'll be taking a drive to your nearest mechanic to be put up on a hoist. .

21 Jun

I hate the way the transmission is made

10 May

This model has had several major problems with engines and transmissions.

20 Jun

at 125, the transmission went out and I had to put a new one in.

26 Nov

Had to return to dealer within 1 month with transmission problems.

1 Mar

Had problems with the transmission acting out,

27 Jan

6 months later the Transmission was shot and I spent $2,300 having that rebuilt.

18 Jul

Would not recommend this vehicle to anyone, the transmission is not reliable at all.

28 May

Transmission had to be replaced when the car was less than a year old.

20 Jan

No mechanical noises at all.

21 Mar

24 May

made such loud noises no idea why, fuel was horrible.

26 Nov

Side mirrors don't work, back up alarm doesn't work, tranny slips, noisy and has been to the garage 2 times for quitting and not re-starting.

1 Mar

Drive train noises like either bearings or rear end oil.

16 Nov

We now have electical and rear end noise now.

2 Aug

A number of idiot lights went bad, and now paint is peeling off the roof and the rear end is again making noise.

15 Feb

but the grinding noise has now gotten too loud to drown out with the radio.

23 Nov

There is no winding noise when you get up to 6 RPMS its actually a cool sound like a whistle.

27 Mar

Clunks going into reverse, rear bangs when making sharp corners, front end shakes even with brand new premium tires, rotors warped making brakes pulsate, front end squeaks when going over bumps, rear gate low quality.

18 Sep

Our 2004 explorer has had the timing chains replaced, the paint is coming off in sheets from the top, the heater would not work until we had work completed on it, now we just replaced the valve lifters.

2 Aug

A number of idiot lights went bad, and now paint is peeling off the roof and the rear end is again making noise.

30 Dec

The paint begins to peel after a few years, the panel on the liftgate cracks for no reason other than a bad design flaw, and the black trim on the doors fades and cracks after a few years.

27 Aug

I've had a few problems with it(paint chipped, transmission needed to be rebuilt, seals leaked and rocker arms needed to be replaced) However, my husband and I relate it to the fact that it sat, undriven, for an extended period of time.

20 Apr

Hood replaced and repainted.

30 Nov

Seat belt does not retract fully so then it gets jammed in door upon closing, this chips the paint on b pillar, and door at latch side, pissing me off.

4 Jan

Replaced brakes and tires around 67,000 miles now reaching 100,000 miles and the only thing that has happened is the replacement of the Temperature module (Leaking Radiator fluid).

14 Jan

Best ($$$) Goodyear Fortera TripleTred tires only lasted 29k, lots of brake work, rear bearings (fronts went at 50k), and last & certainly not least, just got a rebuilt tranny.

18 Jul

needed a SUV for the family loved it for the 1st 3 years, then the transmission, the rear lift gate, the CD player, the brakes, the back seat all went to hell.

8 Mar

The break system had to be completely replaced.

16 Jun

In the past 12 months, I've had to replace all the seals on the transmission, replace the bushings, front hubs, alternator, keyless entry keypad, backup sensors, and the emergency brake.

27 Mar

Clunks going into reverse, rear bangs when making sharp corners, front end shakes even with brand new premium tires, rotors warped making brakes pulsate, front end squeaks when going over bumps, rear gate low quality.

6 Feb

The original front brake pads cause the rotors to glaze and then the dealer tells you that the rotors are warped.

11 Jan

My knee constantly hits the center console and when I switch from gas to brake pedal my knee hits the keys hanging from the ignition.

27 Mar

.rattles continually, engine feels disconnected from gas pedal, sliding moonroof cover falls off track, CD's get jammed in player every time, factory speakers are junk.

6 Feb

There is noticeable gas pedal delay when you slow and try to accelerate and when passing.

11 Jan

My knee constantly hits the center console and when I switch from gas to brake pedal my knee hits the keys hanging from the ignition.

Husband has Ford Explorer Sport Trac for work around the farm and grounds.

26 Jul

But it is an SUV not a sports car, so as with any high centered vehicle, driver responsibility is a must.

15 Oct

I am delighted that so far I have been able to put appliances, etc that I need to haul in the back of my Explorer Sport without any difficulty.

19 Mar

I purchased my Explorer Sport new and found that it did not handle well on wet roads and curves.

26 May

The cargo space and the turning radious are supprisingly large, seeing as it is the 2door sport model.

28 Apr

I liked how the Explorer Sport looked rugged and tough-not weak and flimsy like other SUV's.

1 Dec

The Explorer handles great in winter weather and also does surprisingly well off road for an AWD vehicle.

23 Feb

Husband has Ford Explorer Sport Trac for work around the farm and grounds.

10 Nov

The Explorer 4.0 has much better gas milage the the Mountaineer 5.0.

5 Jun

My dream car has always been a red Ford Explorer!

This is my second Explorer and I would recommend it to anyone interested in an SUV.

My Explorer has more features than anyone could ever need, and the powertrain has been rock solid.

31 May

Only issue I have is the rear wiper motor is stripped out where the arm is inserted into it and the rear window hinges have stripped out at the screws.

11 Oct

No mechanical problems, some minor cosmetic issues and the regular complaints: rear wiper, gas mileage . .

4 Mar

the rear window wiper blade doesn't wipe-it wipes maybe 3 inches of what it should, the gas of course, and just minor things, which have been worked out.

20 Sep

The back wiper has never worked right,

20 Mar

Had problems with the rear wiper, driver door locks, transmission, spark plugs, radio light, knocking sound in the engine and all of it happened in about three months.

12 May

but then the problems started. Normal wear (brakes, wipers, battery, etc.)

29 Dec

All problems include transmission, rear window, rear window washer, tires, ball joint, knocking engine noise (dealer said this was normal!

17 Mar

The rear wiper works intermittently; you have to get the slip yokes lubed ($50) or else it feels like the tranny drops.

15 Dec

Visibility is good except for front right corner, where the windshield bar blocks the view somewhat.

16 Nov

Take it to a reputable transmission shop before you buy it, also I bought this truck for 1750 bucks with 95k miles on it!

6 Sep

Their transmissions issues need to be resolved!

14 Dec

Shifting problem misteriously went away for 1 yr and is now back.

26 Oct

Ready for the list: Valve body in transmission, engine rods, oxygen sensors(2), transfer case, front differential seal, driver's side ball joints 3 times, tie-rods twice, passenger side ball joints once, center console collapsed, rear window leak!

It seems like as soon as the one year warranty runs out, so does the transmission.

22 Mar

2 transmissions $3200, front end work $2000, now head gasket $1100, coupled with the price of the vehicle I could of bought a Lexus.

29 Dec

All problems include transmission, rear window, rear window washer, tires, ball joint, knocking engine noise (dealer said this was normal!

It has a few leaks and rattles

24 Sep

Started with 4 thousand miles with a noise like a dry speedometer cable that took multiple trips to resolve.

The only problem that I have had is that the timing chain was making a rattle on my V6SOHC engine.

11 Feb

The display on the radio goes out sometimes, and there is a weird rattle when it idles sometimes?

9 Dec

Also had some 'mystery rattles' and am experiencing some idling problems.

5 Nov

Other problems: air conditioner rattles, problems with the fuel gauge, accelerator pedal, noises from loose fitting parts.

31 Jul

I still do notice the common problems in it like the radio display on the Mach stereo system going out and the rear wiper only working about 50% of the time,

16 Jul

Little things went wrong like driver's side auto window, electrical issues with factory radio/cd player.

20 Mar

Had problems with the rear wiper, driver door locks, transmission, spark plugs, radio light, knocking sound in the engine and all of it happened in about three months.

17 Jan

The radio runs too hot and you lose the lcds on the radio.

26 Sep

Mechanical - two sets of brakes, a loose antenna wire and a stuck thermostat are it for maintenance.

27 Jul

The radio lights fade on and off at will and the front driver’s side door lock won’t unlock with the remote.

18 Feb

Radio LED display stopped working.

11 Feb

The display on the radio goes out sometimes, and there is a weird rattle when it idles sometimes?

9 Dec

I have had several electrical problems with my truck, including the radio display, the rear wiper motor, the side mirror motor, and the rear glass defroster.

14 Aug

Minor problems: AM Radio reception, antenna cable came loose.

14 Dec

In true FORD fashion nerf bars rusted and literally fell off of the car, EGR rusted through and caused all kinds of problems, bad mass airflow sensor, etc

31 May

It now has 145,000 miles on it and the only thing it needed was the oxygen sensors replaced.

3 Nov

Before I replaced it, it began leaking a bit of oil and the fuel sensor gauge began malfunctioning,

13 Mar

On top of this, my ABS sensor failed, and it doesn't work.

26 Oct

Ready for the list: Valve body in transmission, engine rods, oxygen sensors(2), transfer case, front differential seal, driver's side ball joints 3 times, tie-rods twice, passenger side ball joints once, center console collapsed, rear window leak!

5 Jul

I also have to replace brakes at least twice a year and my check engine light won't go off even after I had the oxygen sensor worked on as instructed by the mechanic.

28 Feb

30 Jun

I have had a number of things go wrong (spark plugs, wires, oxygen sensor, IAC valve, transmission acting up).

3 Aug

The engine has been fine, with only a sensor going bad.
